When Fred and I attended a family wedding in Columbus, Ohio in late December we discovered Le Meridien Columbus, The Joseph, on High Street, which is located in the heart of Columbus’ Short North Arts District. With 135 rooms, the hotel has a wonderful and charming boutique feeling, and the entire Short North Arts District shouldn’t be missed.
As we entered the property, the valet quickly came to assist us, and Blair, the happiest bellman you will ever meet kindly grabbed a luggage cart and helped us with our luggage. As soon as we entered our room on the eighth floor, Fred and I Ooooed and Aaahhhhed over the surrounding floor to ceiling windows that provided amazing views of the many classic brick buildings of downtown Columbus.
After dropping our bags in the in the modern corner room we had been assigned, we headed to the Soul Bar to grab a quick snack. We tried the truffle French fries and the Cobb Salad, both items were delicious! Our waiter even gave us samples of the soup of the day, it was interesting, unusual and very dynamic! After our evening snack, we walked around the property, took some photos, and then went straight to bed.
Over the duration of our stay at Le Meridien, The Joseph, we’ve found ourselves spending a lot of time in the hotel’s lobby, also known as the “hub”, as the best gathering place to sit and just relax. Every time we’d pass through, we’d either grab a coffee, snack, or a cocktail.
Here is a short list of our favorites of Le Meridien, The Joseph:
1.) Just come in and visit the lobby, or “hub.” You can look at the books in the library, you can check out the artwork, or just walk around and take photos. We love a property that leaves you inspired. We found ourselves talking about how we’d like this type of furniture, this type of lighting, and this type of design in our own home. We found something new on each visit.
2.) Coffee! I’ve (Ashley) been an Illy fan forever! I was so excited to find a little Illy espresso machine in our room, as well as Illy espresso drinks at The Soul Bar.
3.) Art! Fred is a HUGE art fan and we enjoyed the art installations on the main floor and on the second floor. We even found out that our Le Meridien room key provides a Complimentary Culture Centre Pass to The Pizzuti Collection just down the street from the hotel. We love that Le Meridien hotels have partnered with cultural centers giving guests an opportunity to explore the great things their destinations have to offer.
4.) Happy Hour! Soul At The Joseph is fantastic. They have happy hour Monday-Friday from 3-6PM with draft beers for $3, wines for $6, artisanal cocktails for $8 and a variety of small plates ranging from $4.5-$10. We highly recommend the Truffle French Fries for $4.5 and the Soul Burger for $10, which comes with fries and a beer. All of their food is great! They share their kitchen with neighboring restaurant The Guild. We tried a variety of quick meals at Soul, and loved them all!
5.) Sparkling on High: Every Friday from 6-10PM, the Soul Bar has a variety of cocktail events that happen every Friday. Be sure to check the schedule when you plan your visit. Unfortunately we missed it, as we were at the family wedding, but we were able to catch the start of the live music that also happens every Friday.
6.) Exercise! Fred and I love to exercise, but it’s not always easy when traveling. Often my gym shoes get left behind when I’m on a short 2-day trip. We love that Le Meridien has partnered with Saucony, allowing guests to try out their newest shoe styles. The hotel also has running shorts and t-shirts that you can borrow if you’re feeling in the mood for a run. (They even have athletic socks you can have for your workouts).
7.) Bikes! It is a little cold and icy this time of year, but from April to November the hotel has light blue cruiser bikes that you can rent to cruise through the downtown.
Our visit to Le Meridien, The Joseph in Columbus reminded ourselves that it is so important to take time to relax and appreciate the things right in front of us. The hotel was so nice, that we didn’t want to leave. Downtown Columbus has some really neat and cool shops and restaurants, but we found Le Meridien, The Joseph to have everything we wanted and needed! After the family wedding, we came back to the hotel and sat by the fireplace in the lobby. Fred and I treated ourselves to a Manhattan and champagne cocktail. We made a cheers and a promised to take time to enjoy the little things in life more often!
Are you keeping up with your New Years Resolution?
Special thank you to Le Meridien, The Joseph for such a wonderful stay!
